Thank you for visiting the Oberon Council site (www.oberon.nsw.gov.au) and reviewing our privacy statement, provided in accordance with the Guidelines for Government Websites issued by the Australian Privacy Commissioner. Oberon Council has an obligation to protect the privacy of site users. This information can be on a database and does not necessarily have to be recorded in a material form." "Personal information" does not "include information about an individual that is contained in a publicly available publication." Personal information, once it is contained in a publicly available publication, ceases to be covered by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
What do we COLLECT and how do we USE your information? We only collect information that is necessary for the conduct of our business and our relationship with you and/or the organisation you are representing. The kinds of personal information we collect and store will depend on the services you request from us. It includes the personal information you give us when you send us an email, request a service or make a booking to use our facilities. Information gathered by us in one instance may be used in another instance unless you expressly request that we do not.
How do we STORE your personal information? Your information is held either in paper-based records or in electronic form in our databases. We take proper precautions to ensure the security of that information. If your information is no longer needed, we will either delete it from our systems or de-identify it, so that it cannot be attributed to you personally.

How can you CHECK the information we hold? You can request, at any time, access to the personal information we hold about you. You are entitled to be told by us what information we hold, details of the purposes for the processing and details of any third party to whom your personal information has been disclosed.
How can you UPDATE the information we hold? You can update your personal information at any time by either calling or writing to the council. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the information we hold is accurate, and we will put into effect any changes that you ask for.

WEB SITE SERVICES AND SECURITY FEATURES How is your inofrmation secured as it is SUBMITTED via the Internet? The Local-e environment has added security available as a default option using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. This means that the information you send is encrypted by your computer, and then decrypted again on our side, preventing others from accessing your private information in between. If you don't want to provide your personal details via the web site, please contact us to make an alternative arrangement.
What about LINKS to other web sites? This site contains links to other web sites. If you are forwarded to another site, this council is not responsible for privacy practices or content of that site.
What about COOKIES? A cookie is a piece of inofrmation sent from a web server to your computer, which can be used to retain user access information. This site does not use cookies. What information is RECORDED when you visit the council web site? If you visit the Oberon Council site to read or download information, the following information will be recorded for statistical purposes:
Your server's address. The name of the top level domain from which you access the Internet (for example, .gov, .com, .edu, .org, .au, .nz etc). The type of browser you use. The date and time you accessed our site. The pages you accessed and the documents downloaded. The previous Internet address from which you linked directly to our site. The Internet address to which you link directly from our site.
The above information is used to create summary statistics which allow us to assess the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, discover what information is most and least used, determine technical design specifications, and help us make our site more useful to visitors. We do not use this information to track, record or distribute information about individuals and their visits to the site. We do however track attempts to upload data or change information on the site. Such actions are against the law. Contacting Oberon Council by email
Your email address will only be recorded by the Council if you choose to send us a message. Subscribe and unsubscribe email service
The Oberon Council site offers a subscribe and unsubscribe email service for those people who wish to receive Oberon Council news and other updates via list-serv system. When you subscribe to this service your email address and, as an option, your name is added to a database. This information is used only to provide the service and will not be used for any other purpose, and it will not be disclosed without your consent.
